DINANT

Enchantรฉ Dinant!

The Belgian town of Dinant had always been on my list of places to visit so in April 2022 I jumped on the train and ventured off towards the Ardennes. The original town dates back to the 7th century and has often been referred to as โ€œUnlucky Dinantโ€. Because of itโ€™s strategic position along the river Meuse, it has always been particularly vulnerable to wars. It really has been through a lot and most tragic and recent was the massacre of 674 civilians by the Germans in World War 1. Itโ€™s not all gloom and doom though. It is also home to Maison Leffe which is where the original Leffe beer was brewed by monks starting from 1240. It was also the birthplace of Adolphe Sax , the inventor of the saxophone. Iโ€™m a big fan of jazz! All in all, a great long weekend of soaking in the rich history, drinking a lot of incredible beer and wine, hiking the fascinating landscape and caves of Furfooz (where early man once lived 40,000 years ago for millenia), cruising the Meuse and eating at some incredible Michelin star restaurants (highlight was the lamb at Le Cofessionnal!). I invite you to hit play on this track, Daybreak at Dinant, from legendary saxophonist Coleman Hawkins whilst perusing through the photos ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ชโœŒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿป
